KB #240014: OLE Error Code Occurs when running a utility
This article describes the circumstances on how you might receive an “OLE Error Code” when running SECNCRPT.EXE, and what can be done about it.
Some of the Encryptionizer utilities (SECNCRPT, etc) may use the Windows Common Dialog Control found in comdlg32.ocx and comdlg32.dll. The Encryptionizer setup program attempts to install these files in your Windows System directory, if they don’t already exist.
You may get an “OLE Error Code” associated with COMDLG32.OCX if the control was not registered properly, if it was accidentally deleted, or the version is out of date.
First, try searching your Windows system directory for the files COMDLG32.OCX and COMDLG32.DLL. The Windows system directory is:
\winnt\system32 or \windows\system32 (NT, 2K, XP), or
\windows\system (98, ME)
If the files exist, execute the following command line from the Windows RUN dialog:
Where systemDirectory is the Windows system directory as shown above, e.g.,
Now try running the utility again. If you still get the OLE error, download and install setupocx.exe. This will install the necessary files and make the proper registrations. No reboot is necessary.
