KB #240112: Installing SQL Server Management Objects (SMO)
The Encryptionizer Column Encryption Manager GUI (Col-E) requires SQL Server Management Objects (SMO). Instructions for installing are shown below.
If you will using the Col-E GUI, download and run the installers for SQL Server Management Objects (SMO). SQL SMO is required by the Col-E GUI to communicate with SQL in order to configure Column Encryption.
- Download the streamlined installer for SMO from the NetLib website
- Run the downloaded program: setup_KB240112 (SMO).exe
- Install CLR Types for Microsoft SQL Server
- Install SQL Server Shared Management Objects
Reboot is not required. Note that even though these downloads may mention SQL Server 2014, they support SQL 2005 and later.
NOTE: You do not need to install SQL SMO if you are using Whole Database Encryption, even if you plan on using the Encryptionizer SQL API’s.
