⏱️ 1 min read

Type:

Information

Summary:

Important note: For Column Encryption support only.
The SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) are not required for Whole Database Encryption. If only using Whole Database Encryption, you can skip the installation of SMO.

When running the Encryptionizer Column Encryption Manager (COL-E) for the first time, you may receive the message that SQL Server Management Objects (SMO) is not installed. Col-E requires SMO to function. Instructions for installing SMO are shown below.

Installation Instructions

  1. Download the streamlined installer for SMO from the NetLib website
  2. Run the downloaded program: setup_KB240112 (SMO).exe
  3. First install CLR Types for Microsoft SQL Server
  4. Next install SQL Server Shared Management Objects (SMO)
  5. Lastly, exit installation utility

Reboot is not required. Note that even though these installers may mention SQL Server 2012, they support all versions of SQL Server: 2005 and later.
