Impact of Microsoft KB5021123 – Description of the security update for SQL Server 2012 SP4 GDR on EKM

Additional Information:

On February 14, 2023, Microsoft posted a security update for SQL Server 2012 SP4 GDR (KB5021123).  SQL Express 2012 SP4  is the underlying database engine for the Encryptionizer Key Manager.

You can download this security update from Microsoft at this link

When applying this update, you will choose SQL instance EEM01.

This Microsoft update is safe to apply to the Encryptionzier Key Manager databases.

As with any updates, we generally recommend that you backup your EKM databases prior to any SQL updates, as well as export and save your Server RSA certificate, should you need to recover your key database to another machine. You can perform both functions from the Manage Key Database option from the Main Menu of EKM.
